Advancing access to justice through legal aid, continuous legal education, and prison outreach for undertrial prisoners in Jharkhand.
In pursuance of the mandate under Article 39A of the Constitution of India, the National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) has undertaken a dedicated project on Undertrial Prisoners and Continuous Legal Education.
The project provides information and updates on legal aid initiatives, consultation programmes, research work, continuous legal education programmes, prison outreach activities, publications, and related initiatives. It reflects the university's commitment to qualitative legal aid for persons in custody and to training stakeholders in the criminal justice system.
Equal justice and free legal aid are constitutional imperatives. This initiative seeks to strengthen access to justice for undertrial prisoners and to build capacity through continuous legal education among law students, advocates, and allied professionals.
“
The State shall secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice, on a basis of equal opportunity, and shall, in particular, provide free legal aid.
